Hey there! We are Spark Development, a software development company from Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
Our journey begins in August 2016 when the company was founded by Valentin, a software developer with experience in Desktop and Web development. At that moment, Valentin wanted to try new technologies and projects, besides the usual work done using Progress OpenEdge. As a result, in the first months we managed to get to work on projects with PHP, Laravel and Magento.
2017 represented a new milestone for us: the opening of our first office. While preparing the office we learned a lot of things about networking, furniture assembling and efficient placement of desks. At the end of November we were ready to welcome people in this space.
In 2018 we extended the team with one additional person and managed to bring a new project on JavaScript and TypeScript. Internally, we started the initial steps on building what was later knows as Etiquette. At this point, the requirements were very simple: an application from where labels can be printed. The requirements evolved over time and compliance documents were added to the capabilities of the application. The first iteration of the application was written in C# to support the SDK provided by Brother. Unfortunately, the end of 2018 got us back to a team of 1 person.
2019 came with a lot of changes. We started to work only on JavaScript projects. We started to build mobile applications with React Native. We started to work with VueJS on commercial projects. We held our first internship and exposed to the public an internal application: Skills. Skills represented for us multiple milestones:
- the first project we developed that used VueJS,
- the first project we exposed to the internet,
- a way to recruit interns that match our requirements,
- a project that we can showcase to our customers.
The internship was a real success for us. We managed to get 4 awesome people that developed skills for frontend and backend development. At this point, 2020 looked very promising.
2020. New year... new decade... new challenges! We moved to a new office, a bigger office. 2 interns started the work on the 6th of January, 2 would start later in March. Then COVID hit and we had to rethink our strategy. We had to scale down again and get new projects. Even though COVID stopped the work on existing projects, new projects started during the second half of the year. Also, during the quarantine period we managed to build 2 MVPs:
- LearnFrom.io platform,
- Etiquette.
The end of 2020 was very good for us, we reestablished connections with some previous customers and managed to get new exciting projects from them, while still working on the existing projects that we started on during the summer.
In 2021 we celebrated 5 years of Spark Development. Through hard work and good customer communication we managed to finalise lots of projects, start new ones, prepare trainings and get to know new people from all around the world. At the end of 2021 we managed to finally grow our team to 2 people with plans to grow even more in the next years. Also, we started the work on a new and improved version of Etiquette that takes advantage of what we learned in the last 5 years.
Over the years we learned a lot of things, a lot of tools and technologies and ways to define and create projects. We are ready to help you in the creation and development of your projects.
